Want to represent queer students at the University of Auckland? Nominations for AUSA Queer Rights Officer are open until 9 October.
Following the 2026 AUSA Executive Elections, No Confidence prevailed for the Queer Rights Officer position, so we're opening it back up. This is your chance to step in and represent the queer community for the rest of the term, from 1 December 2026 to 29 November 2027.
What does the QRO do?
The Queer Rights Officer represents and advocates for LGBTQIA+ students at the University of Auckland. They chair the Queer Student Council Subcommittee, sit on university equity committees, and look after Queerspace - AUSA's community hub for queer students.
You don't need to be a seasoned politician. If you care about queer students and you're ready to do the mahi, this is your shot.
What you need to know:
- Nominations open 9:00am Monday 28 September - close 5:00pm Friday 9 October
- You must be a self-identifying queer person and an AUSA member (free to join)
- Attend one compulsory "AUSA Introduction to Executive" session
- Submit a candidate statement (250 words max) and a photo
- Voting is in person with paper ballots, 12–23 October - open to all enrolled UoA students
