Kokedama making was a tradition that began in Japan, where instead of growing a plant in a pot, the roots and dirt would be covered in moss. The practice originates from Japan, dating back to the 1600s. Its origins are connected to bonsai culture. This way of growing plants has spread to western countries and sparked interest within many.
